Sultry Facts About Demi Moore, Hollywood's Brunette Bombshell

Originally a member of Hollywood’s infamous Brat Pack of the 1980s, Demi Moore has had a legendary (and legendarily scandalous) career.  Here are 42 star-studded facts about Demi Moore.

Demi Moore Facts

1. Different Shades

You might not have noticed this, but Moore's eyes are actually two different colors. Her right eye is a shade of hazel, while the other eye is green. We’re wondering if anyone’s caught that while watching her films!Demi Moore arrives at the launch of the Ethan Miller, Getty Images

2. First Motivation

Moore was first inspired to try acting when she was just a 17-year-old teenager.  At the time, she was living next door to aspiring actress Nastassja Kinski. Kinski was still becoming familiar with the English language, so she recruited Moore to help her with the scripts. In turn, Kinski noticed a talent in Moore and suggested that she try acting as well.

3. Younger Than She Looks

Moore's first big role was in the 1985 blockbuster hit St. Elmo's Fire, which rocketed her to stardom. When she attended an audition for the role of Jules, she decided to ride a motorcycle into the meeting and wear new clothes that fit the part. There was just one problem: all the tags were still on the garments!

4. That Hurts

The infamous "Brat Pack" consisted of heartthrob actors like Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, and Emilio Estevez as well as Moore. But in reality, the group absolutely detested the name. Moore once referred to the term “Brat Pack” as “demeaning,” since she felt it turned a group of determined young actors into a bunch of juveniles.

5. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Even aside from her scandal-ridden marriages, Demi Moore has been a subject of much gossip when it comes to her love life. Among the many men who have been romantically linked to Moore are Leonardo DiCaprio, Colin Farrell, and Orlando Bloom. Basically, Moore has dated most of Hollywood's heavy-hitting leading men.

6. Teenage Dream

When she was still just a 16-year-old teenager, Moore met and fell in love with the married, much older musician Freddy Moore. The two ignored their parents' warnings, moved in together, and were married after Freddy got a divorce and Moore turned 17. They tried their best, but they were just too young: their relationship dissolved after five years.

7. It's My Name Now

Obviously, Demi kept her ex-husband's last name throughout her rise to fame and beyond.

8. Started From the Bottom

Like any would-be actor, Moore had to work a few different jobs before her acting career really kicked off. In her first job, the superstar actually worked as a bill collector.

9. Enough Is Enough

In St. Elmo’s Fire, Moore portrayed a college graduate who is struggling with an addiction to substances. But the truth was even more tragic than fiction. Moore actually almost lost out on acting in the film because of her very real chemical dependencies. Director Joel Schumacher pushed her to sign a contract confirming that she would put her addictions in check.

10. First Hollywood Love

One of Moore's earliest and most high-profile relationships was with her fellow Brat Pack member Emilio Estevez. The two young actors met and fell in love on the set of the movie Wisdom, and they were engaged shortly after. Not for the first time, Moore's impulsiveness came back to haunt her: the two never got married.

11. Mother Moore

Moore has three daughters: Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah. Though these may seem like classic bizarre Hollywood names, each one of them has a secret meaning. Rumer was named after British novelist Rumer Godden, while Scout takes her name from the main character of To Kill a Mockingbird. Tallulah is named after tragic Old Hollywood actress Tallulah Bankhead

12. Chapel of Love

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis became the Hollywood power couple to beat when they married in November 1987. Their wedding was far from normal. They wed in a flashy but low-key Las Vegas ceremony, and the minister who married them was none other than music legend Little Richard. That's one way to start a marriage.

13. Side Gig

Moore has a secret talent not many people know about. Her first husband, Freddy, was a member of the band known as The Nu Kats, and Moore actually co-write three songs with her husband and appeared in the accompanying music videos. Years later, she is still reportedly collecting royalty cheques from her brief songwriting career.

14. Sixth Time’s the Charm

When Moore’s racy film Striptease was coming out, all people could talk about was her topless scene in the film. But few people know the even more scandalous truth. This was actually not the first (or even second) time that Moore had shown skin onscreen. She had previously gone topless for five films before Striptease.

15. How Touching…

In the film Indecent Proposal, Moore has a scene where Robert Redford's character talks about a woman he loved who he lost contact with. In the scene, Moore’s character openly weeps. But the truth was, Moore was crying real tears. She hadn’t been told what Redford would talk about, only to listen to whatever he had to say.

16. Working Part-Time

In 1998, Hollywood became too much for Moore. She left Tinseltown for the calm and quiet of Hailey, Idaho. Preferring to spend more time with her three daughters, Moore would take years before starring in other films from that point. To be fair, she hardly had anything to prove after the heights she’d reached in the first half of the decade.

17. Doll Face

Demi Moore has a very creepy hobby. The actress is an avid collector of dolls. Actually, that's an understatement. Moore owns more than 2,000 vintage dolls, and she goes to disturbing lengths to display her collection. At the height of her fame, she even had a separate residence to hold all the collectors' items.

18. Oh My!

One of Moore’s most infamous appearances on television took place while she was promoting Striptease. Walking on on David Letterman’s show, Moore appeared wearing nothing but a bikini and several cards as part of a skit to present the Top 10 list of that episode. It’s safe to say that America took notice of a stunt like that.

19. Cream of the Crop

We have Moore to thank for the modern popularity of the pixie cut. Back in the late 1980s, Moore attended the premiere of When Harry Met Sally while rocking a pixie haircut. She then kept the hairdo for Ghost, one of the biggest hits of her career. As you can imagine, some ladies were inspired to try the look out.

20. Wait, What?

A lot of people forget that Demi Moore has Disney bonafides. She voiced the heroine Esmeralda in the animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame

21. Justifying the Obvious

In 1992, Moore portrayed a military officer in the film A Few Good Men. Later, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin revealed a chilling behind-the-scenes detail about Moore. Apparently when Moore was cast, a studio executive wondered why her character didn't have a romantic relationship with Tom Cruise's character. Sorkin had to remind the man that female characters don’t exist just to be love interests.

He called it one of the worst moments of his professional career.

22. Chasing the Globe

Though she's had a career most actors could only dream of, there's one thing Moore has never got. She's never been nominated for an Academy Award. Nonetheless, she's got a trove of other accolades, including two Golden Globe nominations during the 1990s. One was for her famous film Ghost, while the other was for a TV miniseries.

23. Unorthodox Judgment

Moore very nearly starred in the film Flashdance, but she lost out after a very controversial casting decision. Allegedly, no one could make a decision between three lead actresses, so producers just showed 50 men their audition tapes and asked them who they were most attracted to. Jennifer Beals won, nabbing herself the role.

24. Get My Good Side

One of the most well-known and scandalous moments of Moore’s career was when she posed nude for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. What made her pose so infamous was the fact that she was seven months pregnant at the time. The photo provoked a furious debate arguing whether the fashion shoot was exploitation or empowerment.

25. Let’s Try Again

The following year after her nude pose, Moore returned to Vanity Fair, posing once again for the cover. This time, Moore looked covered up—but it was all a lie. Though she appeared to be wearing a suit, the outfit was actually a result of elaborate body paint. Fittingly, the picture has often been called “Demi’s Birthday Suit.”

26. Living Large

In case you don’t remember just how famous and successful Moore was back in the early 1990s, consider how she celebrated her 29th birthday in 1991. The diva famously rented out the entire Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park for the day, just so she and her birthday party guests could have uninterrupted access to the rides.

27. Setting a Record

With a paycheck for $12.5 million to appear in 1996’s Striptease, Moore was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood.

28. Smashing!

Aside from her acting career, Moore also owns a production company. Moving Pictures has been responsible for a lot of films thus far, including all three of the Austin Powers films.

29. What an…Honor?

Every year, the infamous Razzie Awards serve to “reward” the worst films of the year in a mirror image of the Oscars. Deserved or not, Moore has been a frequent name mentioned at the Razzie awards. As of 2019, she has been nominated for nine Razzies, having “won” three of them. Any publicity is good publicity, I guess?

30. A Record Nobody Wanted

Moore is actually one of the few people to have “won” Razzie awards two years in a row. She “won” Worst Actress for G.I. Jane, as well as for Striptease and The Juror the previous year.

31. I’ll Show You!

Shortly after Moore’s appearance for Striptease, she returned to an interview with David Letterman to promote her film G.I. Jane. At one point, Letterman brought up that some people questioned whether Moore was fit enough to properly portray a Navy S.E.A.L., so she simply began doing one-arm pushups on the spot.

32. Gimme Moore

Despite her golden reputation in Hollywood, Moore's crews gave her a scathing nickname behind the scenes. In private, Moore was allegedly nicknamed “Gimme Moore” amongst Hollywood social circles. Apparently, as her star rose, Moore demanded more and more exorbitant benefits and swag on her film contracts. But the details are stranger than fiction...

33. Important Project

Moore's diva behavior doesn't stop at her flashy film demands, either. She also is very particular about her private life. When her first daughter, Rumer, was born, Moore didn't want to miss a single second: she actually hired three different cameramen to document the event. Maybe she wanted to catch the moment from all angles?

34. Flying High

Demi Moore wasn't called "Gimme Moore" for nothing. Her reputation for being a diva with unreasonable demands only grew on the set of G.I. Jane. According to one story, before she signed on to play the title role, Moore insisted that the producers supply her with not one but two planes for herself and her entourage while on set.

35. Power Couple

When Moore began dating fellow Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher in 2003, the tabloids went wild. The boyishly handsome Kutcher was 15 years younger than the beautiful Moore, and most outlets doubted the relationship would ever last. In 2005, the two proved them wrong, at least for a time, and they got married in a small, private ceremony.

36. Rumor Mill

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore's relationship remained a hot gossip topic for years—but in 2011, infamous scandal struck. It was reported that on a wild, solo night out in San Diego, Kutcher cheated on Moore with two other women in a hot tub. But that wasn't even the worst part. It was also on their wedding anniversary.

The claim ignited weeks of rumors about the state of their marriage, and in November 2011, the couple announced that they were separated. Their divorce was finalized in 2012.

37. A Broken Home

Moore was born on November 11, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico. She was the daughter of young parents Charles Harmon and Virginia King. Sadly, matrimony was just too much for Charles and Virginia, and they ultimately couldn't stay together for their daughter. They divorced after just two short months of being married.

38. The Father You Choose

Little Demi never got to have much of a relationship with her biological father. Still, this tragic story had a happy ending. After the divorce, her mother quickly married a salesman named Dan Guynes. Moore would later claim that to her, Guynes was her real father. In fact, her legal name is "Demi Gene Guynes."

39. Mother Knows Best

Moore always had a difficult and tense relationship with her mother Virginia. Both mother and daughter have struggled openly with substance abuse, but in 1990, Moore paid for her mother to attend rehab to get better. Sadly, Virginia dealt her daughter a heartbreaking betrayal. She walked away from the rehab, and Moore cut off all contact.

40. Family Secrets

Moore's mother kept a dark secret from her daughter. She hid the existence of her biological father from the young girl, and Demi only found out about him when she was 13 years old and rummaging in her mother's papers. Moore uncovered her mother and stepfather Guynes's marriage certificate and saw that they had only married a year after she was born.

This led Moore to ask her mother about the discrepancy, and Virginia revealed everything she knew about her first husband. She also revealed that she and Charles had split up before Demi was even born.

41. Losing a Father

Tragically, Moore's mother and stepfather's relationship was also doomed to a heartbreaking end. Virginia and Dan Guynes separated in the late 1970s. Two years after the split, a still-grieving Dan ended up committing suicide at the desperately young age of 37, robbing Moore of the only father that she had ever known.

42. Together Again

In 1998, Moore reconciled with her mother—but for an incredibly tragic reason. At the age of 54, Virginia was dying of cancer, and Moore couldn't bear the thought of leaving her out in the cold anymore. Virginia passed away in July 1998.
